That image up there is the cover for the new book of plays by the members of the playwrights’ group to which I belong, 7-ON. It’s our 20-year anniversary and we combined with the good folk of Currency Press to publish a volume of seven of our full-length plays – ones that we were each proud of but that hadn’t made it to publication, which is yet another hazard that playwrights must negotiate in our highly contingent industry. In lots of ways, as individual writers, 7-ON couldn’t be more different, but we are all highly socially motivated and we are all tragically committed to our art. We nurse each other through the tribulations of professional life and crow about each shared and individual victory. Sometimes there are frustrations, which is kind of the point, but these last 20 years have been a beautiful lesson in building and maintaining community. And here we are, from all those years ago...

The play of mine that is included in the volume is The Sweetest Thing, nominated for several awards at the time of its first production in 2010, at Belvoir Downstairs via Arts Radar. See photos of some of the lovely cast below. (And apologies – I don’t have a record of the photographer).
