Earlier this week I hosted a Q and A session at the re-furbished Piccadilly Cinema in North Adelaide for the SAFC Screen Circle with filmmaker and performer Derik Lynch and composer Jed Silver (seen together above) to celebrate the SAFC’s First Nations’ storytelling initiatives with a screening of Marungka Tjalatjunu (Dipped in Black) the multi-award- winning short film that Derik co-wrote and co-directed with Adelaide photographer and filmmaker, Matthew Thorne.
It was a great night and a chance to wave the flag for Indigenous storytelling and individual achievement, both.
My connection is that I’m working (as co-writer) with Matthew on his next film, Flatlands, a ficto-documentary set in the sprawling northern suburbs of Adelaide. The very talented Derik Lynch is on board as First Nations Cultural Advisor.
